You mean the bad economy actually affects ME??

Yesterday I got laid off from my marketing job at a Boston-based social networking company. They laid off over 25% of the company - clearly things are not going well. While my feelings (and my pride too, I guess) are still hurt that I was let go, part of me sees this as a blessing in disguise. At 5 1/2 months pregnant, I'm not going to start looking for another full-time job (especially considering we had planned that I would not return to work after the twins are born - at least not right away).

It definitely hasn't sunk in yet that I'm "done" working for now; I know that we're going to have to tighten our budget, but I can't help but think about all the things I'll be able to get done this summer. Not to mention the fact that I'll be able to take it easy as I get bigger, and more uncomfortable. Hopefully I have enough projects around the house that I can work on in anticipation of the babies' arrival that I can keep myself busy.

Memorial Day Weekend

This year we were smart and took the Friday before Memorial Day weekend off from work - woohoo! We woke up, had a leisurely breakfast, then loaded up all our stuff -- and the cat -- and headed down to Chatham. We had a great weekend, full of nice walks, awesome meals, and much-needed naps. We spent Friday, Saturday and Monday with Larry's parents, and Sunday with my parents at their house in Osterville. We had a "clam bake" - I put it in quotes because there wasn't really any baking, but we did have lobsters, steamers and shrimp. It was so yummy!

Here are some pictures of us enjoying our excellent meal:

Last but not least, here is a picture of Larry and me, at the Caps' house in Chatham. I'm just over 21 weeks pregnant in this picture. I'm not loving the angle, but at least Larry looks cute! Of course, we had just eaten a wonderful barbecue lunch - cheeseburgers, pasta salad, baked beans, and plenty of Cape Cod chips - my current favorite...

An April Fool's Day Surprise

So yesterday we went to the hospital for our first ultrasound, at 13 weeks. We were super excited to see the baby, since so far we'd only heard the heartbeat. As we were sitting in the waiting room, I suggested to my husband that we tell our parents we're having twins, as an April Fool's Day joke. He thought that was hilarious, and agreed.

Next thing you know, the nurse called my name and we go into the examining room. She asked us if this was our first ultrasound, and we said yes. I laid down on the table, she put the jelly on my tummy and started moving the wand around. Then she said, "You know you're having twins, right?"

We looked at each other, and i looked back at the nurse, laughed nervously, and said, that's an April Fool's Day joke, right? You're just kidding?"

She laughed - and then said that while yes, it was April 1, there are definitely two babies on this screen!

Once she pulled up the image, we finally believed her - it was amazing, and so scary at the same time! We were so shocked we couldn't laugh or cry, we just sat (or laid) there with our mouths open. My first reaction was oh my God, i hope they are both okay! As though by not knowing that I was carrying twins i might have jinxed them in some way. But luckily, both babies look to be healthy and normal - in fact, they're measuring a bit ahead - Baby A was measuring about 13 wks 3 days, and Baby B was 13 wks 4 days.

When we finally left (after giving the nurses a good laugh - they thought it was hilarious that we didn't believe it at first), we called my mom to tell her the news. And of course, because of the date, she didn't believe me for the first 10 minutes I was on the phone with her. Once I finally convinced her, she was ecstatic, as are the rest of our families. My husband and I are still digesting it all though - for so long I've had this picture in my head of what it would be like when we had a baby - the things we would buy, the places we would go, the things we would do as a family. I think now i just need to erase that old image and start picturing new ones with 2 babies... and then i'll start to feel better.

Right now, I actually feel like i need to hurry up and start getting ready and doing things- I feel like I've lost a month, since twins often arrive around the 36 week mark - so I need to push up my timeline and start getting things done.

The good news is, I feel like I've turned the corner with regards to morning sickness. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but I haven't thrown up in 2 whole days! At least now I know why I was so sick. Anyway, I need to head home... and hopefully absorb this news some more!
